Kiwanis selling real trees for Christmas in downtown Union Grove

By Patricia Bogumil

The Union Grove Kiwanis will host a new community fundraiser this holiday season, selling Christmas trees acquired from northern Wisconsin for $50 each. All proceeds will be donated back to the community.

The trees will be top-quality Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir and White Pine. All varieties will have a range in height from six feet to nine feet.

Last year, discussions arose about how much fun it would be to have a nostalgic Christmas tree lot right here in downtown Union Grove, explained Dan Maurice, who is chairing the project.

“ We felt there was a need because there is no place locally to purchase a real Christmas tree,” he explained.

So, with many references to the classic holiday movies “A Christmas Story” and “Christmas Vacation,” ideas started flowing.

Not only will the Kiwanis sell Christmas trees to benefit the community, “but we are hoping to also provide a fun tree-buying experience that the whole family can enjoy and look forward to year after year,” Maurice added.

“We would like to invite anyone and everyone to stop by and check it out.

“Even if you have a fake tree, you are welcome to stop by and say “hi!”

The Christmas trees will be sold downtown at Main Street and Mill Avenue.

      Sale dates and times are: Friday, Nov. 29, thru Sunday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 5, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 6, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 7-8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All trees are $50, with presales and delivery available.
