Irish composer featured at Carthage concert

Original works by Irish composer Martin O’Leary will be performed in a free concert at Carthage College Sunday, March 10, by the Muzika Piano Trio, consisting of violinist Darlene Rivest of Union Grove (from right), pianist Anna Kojovic-Frodl and cellist Michele Venturella.

The Muzika Piano Trio, consisting of violinist Darlene Rivest of Union Grove; cellist Michele Venturella and pianist Anna Kojovic-Frodl will join Dr. Martin O’Leary, a composer and professor of composition at the University of Ireland at Maynooth, in concert on Sunday, March 10, at Carthage College, Kenosha.

The group’s collaboration with O’Leary began over a year ago, when the Trio performed his work, Bluescape, and later learned from him that their performance of Bluescape was the American premiere.

After hearing the group’s performance of Bluescape on a CD, O’Leary offered to write a piece for the Trio. This new work, Avanti, will receive its world premiere March 10, along with a repeat performance of Bluescape. The concert will open with Shostakovich’s Piano Trio, opus 67 in e minor.

The performance begins at 3 p.m., March 10, in Siebert Chapel on the Carthage College campus.

The event is free and open to the public.
