Get ready to celebrate the village’s Dodransbicentennial on the Fourth

The Union Grove Parade Committee has chosen the theme of “Celebrating 175 Years!” for this year’s Independence Day parade, which begins at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 4.

The parade starts at the Racine County Fairgrounds on Highway 11 and ends at Union Grove Union High School on Highway 45.

The main parade will be preceded by a two-block long Kiddie Parade from Talmer Bank and Trust at 12th and Main streets to the Village Square at 10th and Main. More details will be announced as plans progress.

This year is the “Dodransbicentennial” or 175th anniversary of the Village of Union Grove.

In honor of this milestone, an essay contest for all students in grades five to eight is being held. One winner per grade level will be awarded a $25 gift card and will be featured in the Union Grove parade. Other special anniversary events will be announced soon.

There will be judging of parade floats with ribbons and cash prizes awarded. Floats may follow the 2013 theme or another patriotic theme.

Mailings are being sent to previous parade participants and previous donors who made financial contributions towards the expenses of the parade.

Registration forms and donation forms are now available online at www.uniongrovechamber.org.

Initial registrations are due by Wednesday, May 15, with details of entry due Saturday, June 15. Donations are not required to participate, but are always appreciated.          The parade is sponsored annually by the Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Bixby-Hansen American Legion Post 171, Union Grove.
