The information is expected to guide decisions by the Common Council in the run up to a likely referendum in November.

RENT-FREE LEASE EXTENDED FOR SENIORS: The Common Council on Tuesday decided to move forward with a plan to allow the Burlington Senior Activity Center to hold a three-year rent-free lease instead of the typical annual renewal. The Senior Center, 587 E. State St., has been operated by a nonprofit organization in the city-owned facility since 2018.

 

COURT NEWS: A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 3 for a Wind Lake woman charged with a fourth drunken-driving offense with a child in the vehicle after she was pulled over in the Town of Burlington.

 

BLAZE DESTROYS GARAGE: Local firefighters extinguished a fire in a garage at a home on Brever Road in the Town of Burlington early Monday morning.

 

DECLINE CONTINUES: The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Tuesday reported just 140 new confirmed and probable cases in Racine County within the previous seven days, which continues a downward trend for the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

GRAND OPENING: Burlington Clothing store Quotes+Cotton held a grand opening of its new location at 516 North Pine Street on Saturday. The event was well-attended as crowds of people came to see the new store and almost 400 hundred purchases were made between Saturday and Sunday, according to one of the owners.

 

TOPPERS WIN PLAYOFF OPENER: Without senior captain Max Robson, Catholic Central needed someone to step up in a WIAA Division 5 regional opener Tuesday night in Burlington. Luckily for the Toppers, Cal Miles, the team’s other senior, and sophomore Alex Vogt brought their ‘A’ games.
