Local woman dies when car crashes into tree

A 24-year-old Burlington woman died early Friday morning when she lost control of the car she was driving and struck a tree along Cranberry Road in the Town of Lyons.

Danielle Lee Heath was the driver and lone occupant of a 2006 Volkswagen Passat that, according to preliminary investigation, was traveling east on Cranberry Road at a high rate of speed when the car went out of control after cresting a hill near Berndt Road, according to a press release issued Sunday morning by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office. The car crossed the center line and struck a tree in the westbound ditch line before coming to rest in the roadway.

A passerby discovered the damaged car with the severely injured Heath inside and called 911 at about 5:30 a.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, Heath was extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County Coroner.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Lyons fire and rescue and the State Patrol.
