Water quality ‘poor’ at Bohners Lake beaches

Water at three public beaches on Bohners Lake in the Town of Burlington tested as poor in quality today prompting a warning from the Western Racine County Health Department.

The three beaches – Aukes, Leach and the Bohners Lake Public Beach – have water with bacteria levels that could cause illness.

To limit potential exposure to the bacteria, health officials are warning people not to ingest the water and to bathe after swimming.

The water at the three beaches will be tested daily until the quality is considered good.

This is the first water advisory issued by the WRCHD this year. The department monitors the water at beaches on Bohners Lake and Browns Lake weekly during the summer.

Bacteria counts typically rise after large rainfalls due to the runoff washing bird droppings and other contaminants into the water.
