The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office and the Walworth County Crime Stoppers are working together in hopes of receiving new information regarding a 1982 cold case homicide.

With the recent addition of the Tip Soft Program, which allows a person to anonymously text or email a tip, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office hopes someone will come forward with some new information about this case.

The Sheriff’s department released the following details about the case:

On Aug. 5, 1982, 34-year-old Barbara Nelson was abducted from her place of employment at the Mini Stop-N-Shop in the town of Albion, near Edgerton, in Dane County.

It is believed she was killed the following day. Her body was discovered on Aug. 10, 1982, in a cornfield on Bray Road, several miles west of Burlington.

Witnesses described seeing an older blue or green pickup truck, and sketches were made of this vehicle. A 1961 Studebaker pickup truck closely resembles the vehicle described.

Detectives from Dane County and Walworth County are jointly investigating this cold case homicide. If you know of anyone who, back in 1982, owned or had access to a vehicle matching this description, please contact the Walworth County or Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
