Nine candidates seek School Board seats

Nine candidates declared their intent to run for two available seats on the Burlington Area School District Board of Education local School Board by Wednesday’s filing deadline.

The list includes:

• Larry Anderson, inc.

• Jim Bousman

• Andrew Endl

• Julie Koldeway

• Susan Kessler

• Eugene Lindemann

• John Maltby

• Norma Miller

• Megan Shumate

A primary election will be held Feb. 19 to narrow the field to four. The regular election will be held April 2.

The other incumbent, Scott Barrett, decided not to run again.

Interest in the seats has been running high in the past year as frequent debates and disputes over budget and teacher compensation issues has thrust the board into the news.

A complete story on the School Board candidate filings can be found in this week’s print edition of the Burlington Standard Press and will be posted to this site later this week.

No races for city, town seats

There will be no surprises – and no challenges – for any of the available spots on the City of Burlington Common Council or the Town of Burlington Board of Supervisors this spring.

With nomination papers due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, there was one person running for each of the four positions on the City Council, and just the two incumbents for the Town Board.

Robert Prailes (District 1) and Peter Hintz (District 2) will seek re-election in the April race, while Jon Schultz (District 3) and Todd Bauman (District 4) will be running to replace Steve Rauch and Katie Simenson – both of whom recently announced they would not seek re-election.

Meanwhile, Town Chairman Ralph Rice and Town Board members Rick Isaacson and Tyson Fettes announced that they would seek re-election, and Town Administrator Diane Baumeister said Wednesday that no one else had filed for the two open positions.

  1. How many school board members does it take to change a light bulb?

None, the bulb has to want to change.
