When Claire Olsen was crowned Miss Burlington Area ChocolateFest last spring, she pledged her year of service would go to help homeless people in the area.

Now, Olsen is part of a large effort to help three of the area’s most prominent charitable organizations – Love Inc., the Transitional Living Center and the Echo Lake Foods Employee Relief Fund.

Olsen will be one of several performers on Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. at Veterans Terrace when she hosts what’s being called the Love Inc. Benefit Concert.

Olsen worked with Miss Burlington Area ChocolateFest director Sue Johnson to organize the benefit.

“She kind of took my ideas and made them a reality,” Olsen explained. “I am just thrilled. I honestly had no idea how big this would become, and how many people would help.”

Olsen said that within days of announcing that they would host the event, people starting coming out of the woodwork to donate time, talents and materials.

“It was just wonderful,” Olsen said.

Tickets are $10 per person with all of the proceeds going to those three agencies.

The concert will feature local talent: the Borderline String Band; classical oboist Lois Jones; the “Flute Lady,” Su Gustafson; Diva Quest winner Hannah Lindell of Waterford Union High School; By the Book Sweet Adelines Quartet; and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Gospel Choir.

Additional performers include Olsen, who won Miss BAC with a vocal rendition of the song, “I Will Be” by Christina Aguilera; Miss Racine Elise Elmblad; Miss Kenosha Caitlin Schober; Miss Heart of Wisconsin Brittny Henderson; Miss West Allis Outstanding Teen Elise O’Connell; former Miss Racine Sha-Nita Rhea; and Miss BAC 2000 Jodi Karow.

Tickets will be available at the door or by calling Johnson at (262) 534-3651.
