Witnesses say there didn’t appear to be any serious injuries

Several people and pets were chased from their home in downtown Lyons when a fire broke out around 2 p.m. Friday

There was no official word Friday afternoon as to whether any of the residents – including at least one child – were injured. However, a neighbor said she had heard everyone made it out of the home without serious injury.

Emergency medical responders on the scene appeared to be treating some of the pets that were in the home when the fire broke out.

The two-family wood frame home at 6056-6058 Railroad Street is next door to the Ye Olde Hotel restaurant.

“It was just billowing black smoke from the upstairs window,” neighbor Dawn Dawson said of the scene immediately prior to the arrival of firefighters.

Dawson assisted one of the families by carrying a shirtless boy to her home located across Railroad Street from the fire scene.

“I only know them because he plays with my kids,” Dawson said.

The boy was later checked out by members of the Burlington Rescue Squad.

Firefighters from the Town of Lyons and the city and town of Burlington were on the scene sifting through the damaged areas of home. Many of the windows had been broken by firefighters to gain access to the fire.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and Racine Fire Belles were also on the scene.

  1. Well, just hope everyone is Ok and The place has Decent Insurance.
It’s So Vital to Have Both Working Smoke/Fire Alarms and Good House Insurance..

If you don’t have Them? Get them as a #1 Priority Please..!

Why they don’t make a Light Bulb Type Screw In Smoke and Fire/Alarm or Make a Hard Wired One Mandatory in All Buildings is Beyond me..

Next is making Homes with Sprinklers Mandatory. With The New PVC pipes and systems, it can be done alot cheaper than the Old types..
Ave cost is now down to only $1.60 per Sq Ft. Only reason mentioning this, is because my Brother Got His 1,200 Sq Ft Home Fitted with it for about $2k cost.. a Great Piece of Mind option. and got a 15% Discount on his Home Insurance .. SB Mandatory in Multi Residental Apts/Homes..

  2. I think sprinkler systems are great in some type of areas, but in a house if they go off. They cause more damage. Unless they are dedicated to the fire area.
