Deputies rescue man from burning home

Racine County Sheriff’s deputies rescued a 73-year-old man from his smoke-filled residence in the Town of Burlington shortly after midnight on Aug. 31.

Deputies were called to the home about 12:45 a.m. by the man who said his home was filling with smoke and he’d need assistance escaping since he is not ambulatory, according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office.

Deputies encountered dense smoke as they entered the home but were able to locate the man and remove him from the house.

The man was treated at the scene by rescue personnel and was then released to a relative.

Town of Burlington firefighters found a fire in the back wall of the residence. Officials suspect the blaze was caused by a power line that was damaged during storms that blew through the area late Friday, the release said.
