While the weather may still feel like early spring – and at times like winter – the summer road construction season has already begun in Burlington.

“We have streets closed already,” said Mayor Bob Miller.

Among the closings coming up is West Washington Street, which is scheduled for the construction of the new parking lot for the City of Burlington Fire Department.

An expansion for the apron in front of the fire department has been up in the air for two months now, as city officials weigh the need for more room for the department to operate safely in conjunction with traffic on the road.

Beloit Street from Sunset Drive to McHenry Street is already closed for spot repairs to the curb and gutter, and for adding handicapped ramps as needed.

Other work scheduled:

• Bridge Street – slag slurry sealing from Adams Street to South Pine Street. Temporary re-routing and single-lane traffic will occur.

• East and West Chandler Boulevard – resurfacing from South Kane to Edward on the East and from Randolph to South Kane on the west, with spot repairs to the curb, gutter and adding handicapped ramps as needed.

• James Street – resurfacing, plus spot repairs to curb, gutter and adding handicapped ramps as needed, as well as replacement of the three-inch water main. Water services may be interrupted when connections are necessary.

• Johnson Street – resurfacing with spot repairs to curb, gutter and adding handicapped ramps as needed, as well as replacing the three-inch water main, with the same warning on the possible disruption of services.

• Teutonia Drive – resurfacing of the road from West Chestnut to the cul-de-sac with spot repairs to curb and gutter.

• Sidewalk reconstruction at various sites throughout the city.

• South Pine Street – construction of new sidewalks on the west side of South Pine from Dunford to near Hidden Creek Lane, and construction of a crosswalk across the road from Hidden Creek to Kwik Trip.

  1. After being a Limo Chauffeur in The Chicagoland Area for 30 yrs and Moving Up here to Retire, I can Say that This Area Has some Very Nice and well Maintained Streets/Roads!

Now it doesn’t have theKind of Heavy Traffic as N. Illinois Does, but none the Less.. It’s kept up very well..

I just would like to see more being done to Regulate the LOUD MOTORCYCLES they allow to come up here and make alot of Noise! Were I come from, If A Car sounded like they do, they would Get a Ticket!
