City clears way for expansion of local business

Wisconsin Vision eyes new site

The City of Burlington Common Council put a unanimous stamp of approval on an extraterritorial certified survey map Tuesday night, paving the way for work to move forward on a new site for Wisconsin Vision Associates.

The company is looking to expand its current business out to a site on West State Street, adjacent to Burlington United Methodist Church. However, several approvals needed to go through before purchase of the property could be closed.

The city’s extraterritorial map turned out to be the last approval. Last week, the Town of Burlington Board of Supervisors approved a zoning change for the land, and on Monday, so did the Racine County Board.

The business will be located on town land, but because of the extraterritorial agreement, the city needed to agree as well.

Other matters

• Also at the meeting Tuesday, the council unanimous approved the issuance and establishing parameters for the sale of $6.33 million in General Obligation Refunding Bonds.

The city is essentially refinancing a loan because the federal government sequestration delayed a payment. That delay – and a reduced amount – allowed the city a chance to get new bonds at a lower interest rate.

• The council unanimously approved a number of resolutions Tuesday night, including approval of a three-year master agreement for engineering services with Kapur and Associates.

• The council approved a change order for work at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the purchase of a portable generator, and approval for the 2012 Department of Natural Resources Compliance Maintenance Annual Report.
