The City of Burlington police department has a new face filling its Community Service Officer position.

With one officer retiring and another leaving the part-time position, an officer on light duty is currently handling the duties, which include enforcing parking regulations within the city.

Police Chief Peter Nimmer said the position will remain open until the officer on light duty can return to a normal workload.

“It’s given us a little opportunity to find out where the needs are for the city,” Nimmer said. “(And) it’s an opportunity to save the city some money.”
