Block party at Riverside Park Saturday

Burlington’s first ever – and maybe only ever – Community Block Party is officially set for Saturday, starting at 3 p.m. at Riverside Park.

The block party idea came about when the city was forced to postpone its annual Fourth of July fireworks. Mayor Bob Miller has said the event will be a chance for the community to come together and enjoy an afternoon.

“Here’s a way to sit back for an afternoon, put our worries aside and just enjoy our neighbors and their company,” Miller said.

Wristbands will be on sale for $2 for the kids’ activities, which include several different bouncy houses, a maze and games with prizes.

The Burlington Lions Club will sell beverages and the Rotary Club food, working out of the pavilion on the other side of the footbridge.

Items for sale will include soda, beer, water, brats and hot dogs. Families can also bring their own picnic lunch/dinner.

The money is coming out of a contract services account the city has, and will likely cost about $4,500 – though, with selling the wristbands, the city is hoping to recoup some of the costs.

  1. So they had fireworks at dusk?? Why wasn’t this even mentioned in your article? Our family has been waiting over 2-months for this to be announced since the July 4th Fireworks were cancelled -as you mention in your article. Thanks a bunch Jennifer!
