Polls are open for School Board primary

Voters in the Burlington Area School District will trim the field of candidates for School Board from seven to four in today’s primary election.

The race, which is the only one on the primary ballot, features incumbents Kevin Bird and Barry Schmaling facing challenges from newcomers Mario Denoto, Tabitha Herbst, Aaron Melby and Ryan Mueller. The name of a seventh candidate – former School Board President James Bousman – also appears on the ballot, but he has officially dropped out of the race.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. The district includes all or portions of the City of Burlington, Town of Burlington, Village of Rochester, Town of Dover, Town of Lyons and Town of Spring Prairie.

All voters in the City of Burlington will cast their ballots at Veterans Terrace, 589 Milwaukee Ave.

Town of Burlington voters have two polling places: Town Hall, 32288 Bushnell Rd.; and Riverwood Community Church, 6919 McHenry St.

Other polling places in respective school district jurisdictions include: Rochester Village Hall, 300 W. Spring St.; Lyons Town Hall, 6339 Hospital Rd.; Dover Town Hall, 4110 S. Beaumont Ave., Kansasville; and Spring Prairie Town Hall, N6097 State Road 120.

Voters who have questions regarding the election should call the municipal clerk in their respective municipality.

The top four finishers in Tuesday’s primary will advance to the April 5 Spring Election. Check back here after polls close for results of the primary.

Profiles of the candidates appeared in the Feb. 3 edition of the Standard Press.
