Three injured in SUV vs. U-Haul crash

Three people were injured – one critically, when a sport utility vehicle and U-Haul collided March 19 on Highway 36 in the Town of Lyons.

The crash occurred at about 12:20 p.m. on Highway 36 east of Overhill Court. A 2003 Acura SUV traveling west on Highway 36 crossed the centerline and struck a 2006 GMC U-Haul truck, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the SUV, Philip S. Carney Jr., 70, of Lake Geneva, sustained critical injuries and was flown to a trauma center by Flight for Life.

Carol Carney, 69, of Lake Geneva, a front seat passenger in her husband’s vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the U-Haul, Donald Oliver Wilkens, 52, of Burlington, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The Lyons Fire Department responded to the crash scene and requested assistance from the Town of Burlington Fire Department and Paratech Ambulance. The City of Burlington Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office with traffic control.

The crash investigation was ongoing as of Monday.   Highway was closed to all traffic until 5:24 p.m.
