Storms blow through area, knocking out power

While the majority of June 5’s late thunderstorm managed to miss the Burlington area, winds from the storm knocked out power throughout the southeast area.

According to a We Energies spokeswoman June 6, about 3,000 customers in Racine County were without power at 10:30 p.m. June 5. That was likely a conservative estimate, however, as some customers had already had power restored.

In total, about 45,000 We Energies customers lost power in the state. The majority had power restored by 3:30 p.m. the day after the storm, with We Energies expecting the rest to be restored later in the day.

The line of storms that moved through just clipped the Burlington area in terms of rain, though a later storm produced a heavy downpour.

But the majority of the problems with the first line of storms was caused by wind. About 700 Burlington customers lost power, while about 350 Waterford customers lost power.

There were just scattered outages reported in Union Grove.

The We Energies spokeswoman called the outages “widespread and weather related.”

The warnings for the storm started going out shortly after 6 p.m. June 6, with severe thunderstorm warnings being issued first for northern counties and then for Racine County from about 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
