Little drama in most Burlington area races

While the City of Burlington Common Council may see a change in mayor next week, depending on the outcome of that race, all four seats on the council itself are unopposed.

In fact, Aldermanic District 1 – a year after a late step-up by John Ekes prevented an appointee – Ed Johnson finds himself running as a write-in candidate after initially choosing not to run.

Johnson filed papers of non-candidacy, but when no one else chose to run for the position, filed as an official write-in candidate in order to prevent an empty seat. He will be seeking his third term in office.

The other three Common Council alderman – Ruth Dawidziak (District 2), Tom Vos (District 3) and Tom Preusker (District 4) – are also running unopposed.

A story on the mayoral race between Jeannie Hefty and Bob Miller can be found here.

Town of Burlington

Two Town Supervisors – Joan Boehm and Jeff Lang – will be unopposed on Tuesday.

Boehm has served on the Town Board since 2000, while Lang believes he has served four terms and is seeking his fifth.

School Board

School Board President Jim Bousman and newly appointed Barry Schmaling will be running unopposed for the two Burlington Area School District Board of Education positions.

Bousman was elected three years ago, while Schmaling was appointed in the fall to replace Larry Anderson, who decided to retire from the School Board before the end of his term.
