Drug user arrested during hotel incident

A former Waterford man who is now listed as homeless was charged this week for his second possession of heroin after an incident at a hotel in Waterford.

Michael Torrey, 32, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with possession of narcotic drugs, a felony and second offense, and possession of drag paraphernalia – a misdemeanor.

As of Tuesday night, Torrey remained at Racine County Jail on an $8,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint, Town of Waterford police were sent to the Baymont Inn Feb. 10 for a “man acting strange after using drugs.”

Torrey’s brother told police that his brother had taken drugs and was either sleeping or passed out on the floor of his hotel room. Police managed to wake Torrey and when rescue personnel arrived, they reportedly told police Torrey was “high but not in any danger.”

Torrey’s children were at the hotel, and put in a different room while staff dealt with the situation. When confronted with the syringe and plastic bag by police, Torrey allegedly told them, “That’s heroin and now I’m going to prison.”

The bag was later tested by police, where they got a positive result for heroin.

Torrey’s girlfriend, who was at the hotel with the two children, reportedly told police, “I want you to take him to jail. I’m sick of him and his drug problem.”

Torrey was also charged Monday in the hit and run of an attended vehicle from an incident that took place in December.
