Crash sends teenager to hospital

A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of highways 36 and W Nov. 9 will likely result in criminal charges for one of the drivers.

According to the City of Burlington Police Department, Jacob Horsch allegedly ran a red light traveling south on Highway 36 last week. The female driver of the other vehicle had moved into the intersection when the light turned green, and Horsch’s vehicle struck hers.

The female driver was taken by Flight for Life helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa and, according to the city police, was still being treated there as of Monday. Horsch was also transported for medical treatment due to injuries.

No criminal charges had been filed against Horsch as of Tuesday, but he was cited following the crash with drunken driving and reckless driving – both with causing great bodily harm – and violation of a red traffic control signal.

The crash drew several law enforcement, fire and rescue agencies to the scene.

City of Burlington Police Lt. Brian Zmudzinski, along with City of Burlington Mayor Jeannie Hefty, praised the departments – which included the city and town of Burlington Fire Departments, Burlington Area Rescue Squad, Rochester Fire Department, Flight for Life, the Racine County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol, for working together.

“It was a nice, collective effort,” Zmudzinski said.
