While there still remains just one confirmed dead after a house in the Town of Burlington exploded Saturday afternoon, two family members are reporting that three people were likely home at the time.

Kayla Lambert, the daughter of Craig Lambert, and Tamara Burgos, the daughter of Kim Howe, said Sunday that they believed Craig and Kim were both at home Saturday when the 911 call was made. Minutes later, the house exploded, according to Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling.

Both daughters said Kim’s son would have been home as well, as both cars were in the driveway and the son would have been with his mother.

“There’s no way,” Kayla Lambert said that the two would have been separated.

The two also said they were told a second body had been found either overnight Saturday or Sunday morning. The explosion appeared to have taken the house down to its foundations and it appeared from the scene Sunday that other buildings were also destroyed.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Sunday evening that two bodies had been found, and that they were looking for a third whom they believed to be at the home at the time of the fire. The press release from the department said, “The investigation into this fire is ongoing and the circumstances surrounding it are suspicious in nature.”

Investigators were on the scene Saturday overnight and all day Sunday. That included criminal investigators from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department and several different fire companies, including the Town of Burlington, East Troy, Tichigan, Kansasville and Wheatland. A late-afternoon search brought in members of the SWAT team as well as Air One out of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.

“We had a great, clear, bright day out,” Schmaling said Sunday night, adding that he had extra staff and Air One available, so they extended the search. “I am going to treat it as a crime scene until the evidence dictates otherwise.”
