Blaze in roaster sends firefighters to Nestle

A fire in one of the roasters at Nestle on South Pine Street May 7 resulted in a mutual aid request.

City of Burlington fire personnel responded to the fire just before 6 p.m. Maintenance staff at Nestle reported an active fire in one of the roasters.

According to a news release from the City of Burlington, the fire suppression systems at Nestle had extinguished the fire by the time fire crews arrived.

The fire department manually unloaded 7,000 of cocoa beans from the roaster, and found no evidence that the fire had spread.

The MABUS call went out to ensure adequate backup personnel for both fire and rescue.
