According to a press release sent to local media from Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Katy Engels, no one was injured. The press release said that several balloons were being inflated for a display when a pilot felt the winds were about to switch. The balloons were being deflated when the wind suddenly picked up.

“This is why we screen all of our pilots carefully,” said event director Ken Walter. “He made the call at the right time and we were able to get the line of spectators out of harms way. It was skill and training that prevented this from becoming a much worse incident. The pilot absolutely made the right call.”

The grounds were also cleared Saturday afternoon as a line of severe storms moved through the area.
