With the first year of 4-year-old kindergarten almost in the books, the Burlington Area School District looked ahead to 2015-16 Monday night.

Contract changes for partner providers were announced at the BASD School Board Curriculum Committee meeting.

BASD Assistant Superintendent Connie Zinnen said that as of this week, there were 101 students signed up for 4K.

“We know it will grow,” she said. Last year, the district had about 110 students by the beginning of April for the first year of the program.

Zinnen also said the district is looking at roughly 191 5-year-old kindergarten students for next year – an increase of 23 from the 4K numbers.

The committee unanimously approved contract changes with providers Plymouth Children’s Center, Noah’s Ark Preschool and the CATHE Center – all of which were essentially housekeeping. The changes involve the beginning and ending dates of the school year, as well as the removal of a $10,000 security reimbursement and a modification of the $2,500 allowed for start-up equipment.

Zinnen said the first year had gone well.

“We’ve had good partnerships,” she said. “It feels like it has been a successful partnership.”

The biggest approval was with Celeron Head Start, which will be running a 4K program with Head Start of Racine County. The program uses a slightly different curriculum and will have a slightly different calendar, since it will have to match with the Racine County program.
