The City of Burlington Common Council unanimously approved Gregory Guidry as the city’s new building inspector Tuesday night.

Guidry replaces Pat Scherrer, who left in November.

Mayor Bob Miller expressed excitement about the hiring Tuesday night, saying that Guidry held all residential and commercial credentials the city requires.

A panel that included Miller, Aldermen Jon Schultz and Bob Prailes and two city staff members interviewed four finalists.

“I was part of the interview process, and I think we got a great candidate,” Prailes said at Tuesday’s meeting.

Guidry will be paid an annual salary of $70,000, and will hold hours Monday through Friday.

“I’ve been in construction since high school,” Guidry said, adding that his father and brother were both general contractors.

“I’ve been inspecting here in the state since 2001,” he said. “I’ve learned the code, and the intent of the code – why it was developed. It helps me explain it better.”
