Bohner’s Lake woman accidentally shoots self

A Town of Burlington woman ended up in the hospital Friday night after dropping a gun and accidentally shooting herself.

According to a press release from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department, the Racine County Communication Center received a 911 call Friday. When deputies arrived and began investigating, they found that the 78-year-old woman had been scared and went to arm herself with the handgun. She dropped the gun, and it fired when it hit the floor, hitting her in the stomach.

The patient was transported to Burlington Memorial Hospital and then to Froedtert for her injuries. The initial investigation into this incident shows that alcohol and drugs may have played a contributing factor into the chain of events.

The sheriff’s office wanted to remind people to be cautious with firearms and to remember gun safety.
