The Burlington Area School District approved a number of resignations Monday evening – including that of Burlington High School Assistant Principal Mike Raether.

Raether was offered the principal position at the soon-to-be completed Berlin Middle School. Berlin is located about 25 miles southwest of Oshkosh.

BHS Principal Eric Burling said that he knew Raether would eventually earn a head principal job, but had hoped to keep him a little longer. Raether was hired in July 2011.

“Mike has served the students and staff of Burlington High School with exceptional leadership and feedback,” Burling said. “He was always approachable and had a genuine interest in our students. His calm demeanor along with a good sense of humor allowed him to build good relationships, which allowed him to work towards fair decisions when dealing with students, parents and staff.”

Raether will be heading to a school of about 370 students, he said.

“It’s a brand-new school we’re opening in August, so that adds a lot of excitement to this transition,” he said. “The move puts both my wife and myself much closer to our families.”

He did say he had mixed feelings, however.

“I’m leaving an excellent school, an excellent staff, a great student body and a welcoming and caring community,” he said. “I also have so much respect for my administrative colleagues, especially Eric Burling, who I have learned so much from over the last four years.”

The search for Raether’s replacements is ongoing. The interview process began this week.
