A parent of a student at Waterford’s Trailside Elementary School confirmed that students were evacuated due to a bomb threat Friday morning.

The parent received a robocall on her cell phone at 10:47 a.m. from the school’s principal, Jim Dembosky, saying that a bomb threat had been found on a bathroom stall. All students were safe and transported to Evergreen Elementary, but there was no need for parents to pick up students at this point. Parents would also be kept updated on the situation.

By noon, the Waterford Graded School District had posted the following updates on its Facebook page:

First message, at about 11:30 a.m.: “This morning there was a threat communicated in a bathroom at Trailside Elementary. We immediately notified Law Enforcement and evacuated the building. The responding Racine County Sheriff Deputies took control of the threat situation and students were transported to Evergreen as a precaution. The investigation is ongoing and the Racine County Sheriff’s Department and is speaking with a person of interest. The Building is safe and they have established that there is no credible threat.”

Second message, at about noon: “We have been notified by Racine County Sheriff’s Deputies that we may begin transporting students back to Trailside Elementary. Students are currently eating lunch at Evergreen Elementary and will have recess. We will begin transporting students back to Trailside at 12:15 PM. Office staff are returning to Trailside now.”

This is the second area bomb threat this week, as Yorkville Elementary School was subject to one on Tuesday. A number of southeast Wisconsin schools have been plagued by the threats over the last week and a half.

  1. It a sad reality that this is now a genuine concern and fear kids shouldn’t be the victims of such threats in school .

  2. I was there

  3. Teacher/concerned citizen

Seriously, if people are doing these as pranks, our community needs to express how serious it is. Those responsible should have a heavy consequence regardless. School should be one of the safest places a kid can be! PERIOD!!!
If some kid gets the idea to pull a stunt like this, I hope they get caught and suffer a consequence serious, yet appropriate for their age!
