As it has for the past few years, the Burlington Area School District will host a summer food service program.

Free meals are available to financially eligible students 18 years or younger, and to those over the age of 18 who still attend public or private schools or non-profit programs that serve people with mental or physical disabilities.

The program is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The idea is to get nutritious meals to children when free and reduced-price meals are unavailable during the summer months.

“It’s a great service for our community,” said Burlington Area School District Superintendent Peter Smet. “Anyone in the community can access it. It happens to coincide with our summer school program, though it’s not directly connected to it.”

The program has the following hours and dates:

• July 7-Aug. 7, Monday through Thursday, at Waller Elementary School, 195 Gardner. Breakfast is served from 7:30-8 a.m., and lunch from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

• July 7-July 17, Monday through Thursday, Burlington High School, 400 McCanna Parkway. Breakfast is served from 9:20-10:15 a.m., and lunch from noon to 12:45 p.m.
