After saying Friday that the Burlington Area School District would wait until Sunday afternoon to make a decision, BASD announced around noon on Monday that schools would be closed.

A phone alert to parents in BASD went out around 11:50 a.m. Saturday morning. BASD Superintendent Peter Smet said that the scheduled BASD School Board meeting for Monday night – dealing with naming rights and sponsorship of facilities – was cancelled as well, and would be rescheduled.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high of minus-14, with wind chills well below that/

“The National Weather Service has not changed its forecast,” said Smet. “We wanted to give parents as much time as possible.”

Kathleen Cepelka, Superintendent of the Archdioceses of Milwaukee, sent out an email reminder to all private schools – including those in Burlington – on Friday to let principals know they would be waiting on the BASD decision, so private schools will be closed as well.
