As NASCAR gets ready to kick off the 2014 season Sunday, so does the Burlington Lions Club.

The Lions will host their 15th annual Daytona 500 Party Sunday at Veterans Terrace in Burlington.

Doors open at 11 a.m., and the party will run through the conclusion of the race.

In recent years, weather has created an issue – and not in Burlington. Rain has postponed the race in the past, and there’s a chance of rain Sunday.

“There’s a 40 percent chance, so…” said party organizer Jerry Robertson said. But they won’t do the long delays anymore, Robertson said.

“They’ll call it or run it (the next day),” he said.

Tickets are $15 each, with each ticket serving as an entry into the club’s big raffle. The grand prize is $500 cash. Other prizes are box seats for Brewers with parking pass, Packers memorabilia, and gift certificates.

The ticket will also get the user free tap beer and soda, as well as a sandwich and chips. Other raffles will be ongoing throughout the race, and the Burlington Lioness will be holding a bake sale.

Robertson said the club generally hosts between 75 and 100 guests.

“We’re hoping for another big year,” he said. “The more money we make, the more things we can do in the community.”

Among the projects the Lions Club funds is the Burlington Community Pool, Boy Scouts, Girls Scout, eyeglasses for the needy and the Wisconsin Lions Camp.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Pre-sales are available at Mertens’ Service or from any Lions Club member.
