Gas prices at high point for 2014

Prices should level off soon, expert says

Average retail gasoline prices in Wisconsin have risen 4.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.67 per gallon yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 3,112 gas outlets in Wisconsin.

This compares with the national average that has increased 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.59, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Wisconsin during the past week, prices yesterday were 11.5 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 6.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 9.2 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 7.2 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

“The national average has zoomed higher in the last week, regaining some upward momentum and bringing us to the highest national average so far this year,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. “As we get very near the final shift to summer spec gasoline, we’re seeing prices continue to creep higher in many communities across the country.

“We expect prices nationally between April and September to average out to $3.52 per gallon, which would be slightly under the same period last year,” DeHaan said.
