A car crash claimed the life of a 24-year-old Lyons woman in the early morning hours Friday.

Danielle Heath, a 2008 graduate of Burlington High School, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County coroner after she was extricated from her vehicle.

According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the initial investigation showed that Heath had been traveling at a “high rate of speed” on Cranberry Road in the Town of Lyons.

Heath appeared to have lost control of the vehicle after cresting a hill, and the vehicle then crossed the centerline and struck a tree in the westbound ditch. The vehicle then came to rest in the road, the release said.

A passerby called for help at about 5:30 a.m. Friday morning. The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department, Lyons Fire and Rescue and the Wisconsin State Patrol responded.

According to her obituary (page 5 of this edition), Heath attended Gateway Technical College to become a certified nursing assistant, and had been working as a bartender at Pepperoni Pub in Elkhorn.

While at BHS, she was responsible for a large second-floor mural – one that celebrated diversity and encouraged acceptance at the school.

Her older brother, Brad Ferstenou, and his wife, Mackenzie, both work within the school district – Brad at Karcher Middle School as a language arts teacher, and Mackenzie at the high school as an English teacher.
