City seeks grant for Coffee House expansion

The current success of The Coffee House at Chestnut and Pine could be expanding soon, thanks to a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) grant program.

The City of Burlington Common Council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize the application and grant agreement for a WEDC Community Development Investment Grant.

The program could provide up to $500,000, though the city is applying for a $250,000 Tier 2 grant.

The Coffee House is proposing a project that would meet several different city goals, as well as fit the criteria of the grant program. The owners want to expand into the building neighboring their current shop, including further space for entertainment, an expanded kitchen and expanded bakery.

“The Coffee House at Chestnut and Pine is approaching two years of business and we are grateful to the Burlington community for its growing support,” said GM Carly Hurley in a written statement. The grant would also provide ADA-approved access to the upstairs space and fire protection.

Fireworks approved

In spite of the continuing wishes of the council to have the Fourth of July fireworks set off over Echo Lake – with no feasible options at present to do so – the $10,000 expense of the fireworks was approved Tuesday night.

The city will contract with 5-Star Fireworks Corporation to put on the show. The fireworks will be shot off from behind the Little League ball diamonds near the ChocolateFest grounds.

Another take money from the money strapped state taxpayer/would be business starter into the hands of the well to do. Pay for your own expansion! Get a loan max out your credit card at high interest like a lot of starters do. Or get well connected and have the govt give you other peoples money.

    • all these “fake” government grants are a joke, I used to go here all the time, BUT now I will never go in again.
