SMiShing is no laughing matter for bank customers

A handful of local Community State Bank customers who have cell phone service through U.S. Cellular are known victims of a spam text message attack called SMiShing.

They were tricked into supplying bank account information in response to a text message sent last weekend to their cell phones.

But these known victims are just those customers who had second thoughts and contacted Community State Bank to follow up on the text message (as a result, their accounts were immediately closed, and new ones set up).

Other local victims may also have supplied that information to the spammers, but then never contacted Community State Bank about the issue.

They should do so immediately.

Community State Bank is headquartered in Union Grove, with offices in Burlington, Waterford, Kansasville, Mount Pleasant, Rochester, Sturtevant and Paddock Lake. The main office phone number is (262) 878-3763.
