On Saturday, two different organizations – and two separate fundraisers – will combine to benefit as many people as possible.

Starting at 2 p.m., Kindred Health Care and Rehabilitation will hold “Riding for the Memory” – a motorcycle ride throughout southeast Wisconsin.

And when riders return Saturday evening, they can head out to the Burlington Lions Club Street Dance in the historic Burlington Loop.

Proceeds from the ride will go to three different Alzheimer’s disease-related organizations – the Alzheimer’s Association, Memory Bridge and Rush Research.

“I think it’s very important,” said Kindred of Burlington’s Cathy Morgan, the program coordinator for the facility’s Alzheimer’s wing. “Alzheimer’s is very quickly one of the most expensive disease to fund or to research.

“We need to have a safe place for our adult population with Alzheimer’s, to live,” she added. “Our goal at Kindred is for them to live with the highest level of independent function for the longest level of time.”

Registration for the ride runs from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. Miss Southern Lakes Tara Pizer – a top 10 finisher at Miss Wisconsin in June – will start the ride at 2 p.m. Aaron Simms from the Milwaukee Admirals will be on hand, as will a representative from Aurora.

The cost is $20 per rider and $10 for a passenger. Each registrant will receive a t-shirt and a ribbon for their motorcycle.

John Lynch Jr. of the Burlington Lions is excited about partnering with the ride.

“Alzheimer’s and dementia has become so prevalent,” Lynch Jr. said. “It’s just one more way that the Lions Club looks to be able to help the community. And it’s something that affects every one of us.”

There will be live music, raffles, food and drinks at the street dance. The Burlington Lioness will be selling “summer food” – the traditional brats, hamburgers, hot dogs and the like.

Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Proceeds from the street dance will go to the Burlington Lions and Lioness, which help fund community projects, scholarships and the Lions’ eyesight initiative.
