Driver assaulted by fake cop

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible police impersonator incident that occurred Wednesday, Sept. 26, at about 7:30 p.m. in western Racine County outside Waterford.

A young female, driving alone on County Trunk Highway K (Apple Road) assumed she was being stopped by a police officer in a squad car. She thought the car behind her displaying an oscillating red light on its front dash was a squad car.

A black male, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, approached her car, displayed a weapon and assaulted her.

The assault stopped when another vehicle drove by on Highway K and the assailant ran back to his car and left.

The victim said the black male was not dressed as a police officer and she described the vehicle as a four-door, dark colored car with a possible license plate having the letter “T” as the fourth character.

Anyone with information about this vehicle, or who may have driven by during the incident, is asked to contact the Racine County Sheriff’s Office at (262) 886-2300).

Sheriff Chris Schmaling noted that law enforcement squad cars will display red and blue lights – not a single red light.

If a red and blue light is not visible whenever a driver is being asked to stop, then it is recommended that people drive to a well lit area, remain in the car and call 911.
