The Waterford High School boys’ soccer team concluded its regular season with a 2-0 win over Lake Geneva Badger Thursday, followed by a 2-1 loss to Shoreland Lutheran Monday.

With the split, the Wolverines ended the regular season 5-9-5 overall and 4-2-3 in the Southern Lakes Conference.

The win over Badger came in the second game of the SLC Tournament. Waterford had lost its opening game of the tournament 2-1 to Delavan-Darien on Sept. 27.

Austin Swigart got the Wolverine boys on the scoreboard 18 minutes into the game on an unassisted goal, and it stayed 1-0 until Ethan Christensen scored in the 59th minute off an assist from David Zahn.

Waterford’s defense did its job, holding Lake Geneva scoreless.

In this non-conference matchup, Waterford scored just 53 seconds into the game when Tony Sustachek put the ball in the net off an assist from Christensen.

But that was the only goal the Wolverines would get.

Shoreland tied it 15 minutes into the game, and scored the game-winner in the 54th minute of the second half.

WIAA Division 1 regional action begins Tuesday, Oct. 11. As of press time, it was not known who or where Waterford would play.
