MICHAEL R. VOS

Michael R. Vos, 69, of Burlington, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 10, 2023. He was surrounded by his girlfriend and family.

Mike was born in West Allis on June 24, 1953, to Richard and Betty (nee Murphy) Vos. The family moved to Burlington where Mike attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Burlington High School. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in accounting, became a CPA, and spent his entire career in public accounting. He started out working in his father’s accounting practice in Burlington after graduation, then moved to Texas to work for Coopers & Lybrand, followed by a stint at a regional firm in Minnesota. In 1991, Mike returned to Burlington to take over his father’s accounting practice and provided services to businesses and individuals in the Burlington area until his retirement in 2013.

Mike’s passion was golf, so much so that his home was located across from the putting green at Browns Lake Golf Course. He enjoyed his destination golf trips with his friends and his Thursday golf group. One of his greatest accomplishments was hitting a hole in one while living in Minnesota. He loved any and all sports, from dropping a fishing line off of his pier on Browns Lake to watching his favorite teams on TV, Brewers, Bucks, Packers, Badgers and many more. He loved it all. Mike enjoyed the simple things in life, nature, sunrises and sunsets, astronomy, and music that reminded him of many good times in his life and would prompt a good story. He also loved gathering with his family and watching his nephews play sports.

Mike is survived by his girlfriend, Laura Jonas; siblings, Gail Vos, Deb Vos, Terry (Joe) Harvey, Scott (Jane) Vos, and Kathy (Wayne) Madro; niece and goddaughter, Katelin (Matt Schwichtenberg) Murphy; nephews, Ryan (Rachel) Murphy, Sam (Kimberly) Vos, Max Vos and Mitch Vos; great nephews, Henry Vos, Ethan Vos and Ronan Murphy; goddaughter, Maureen (Jeff) Radtke; aunt, Patricia McClimon; and other cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rich and Betty Vos.

The family would like to thank Laura for all the loving care she gave to our brother. A special thank you to Dr. Paul Webber for his treatment and support and to Vicki, Sandy, Molly, Chris, LuAnn, Kim, Danielle and Linda with Aurora at Home Hospice for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Burlington High School Athletic Association or the Catholic Central High School Athletic Association.

A gathering to celebrate Mike’s life will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. A private burial will take place in St. Charles Cemetery at a later date.
