Regional loss ends Demon boys season

It was not the way the Burlington High School boys’ soccer team wanted to end their season.

As the No. 6-seeded team in regional action, playing Racine Horlick, the No. 11-seeded team, the Demon boys had hoped to at least advance to the second round of postseason action.

That was not to be, though, as Horlick defeated Burlington 2-1 in double overtime Tuesday at Lake Geneva to end the Demons season.

Burlington scored first in this game in the 18th minute of the first half.

“Robert Whitehead scored on a beautiful shot from the outside unassisted,” head coach Phil Molitor said.

It stayed 1-0 Burlington until the 54th minute when Horlick tied it on a penalty kick.

With the score still tied at one apiece after regulation, the teams went to overtime.

The first overtime was scoreless, but in the 117th minute of the second overtime, Horlick won it on a free kick.
