Turning in some of their best performances of the season, the Burlington High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams finished second and fourth, respectively, at their own Chocolate City Invite held Saturday at St. Francis Retreat Center.

“Fantastic team performance to finish second to a very strong Kettle Moraine team,” head coach Rick Koceja said of the Demon girls. “Michelle Kleitsch and Kit Kocha ran an aggressive race to finish in the top 10, and Michelle Dankle ran her best time of the season.”

The Demon girls tallied 85 points, with Kettle Moraine winning the 14-team event with just 40 points.

Kleitsch, a senior, finished fifth with a time of 16 minutes 14 seconds, with Kocha, a sophomore, placing ninth in 16:18. Dankle, a senior, was clocked in 16:40 (20th).

Maddie Crawford, another senior, and Aleigha Barry, a sophomore, did their jobs as the team’s No. 4 and No. 5 runners, turning in times of 16:51 (24th) and 17:00 (30th).

The Demon boys finished fourth with 136 points. Waukesha South won the boys competition with 35 points.

Nathaniel Sibley led Burlington with a time of 17:35, which was good enough for 19th place. Finn Finucane finished 20th with a time of 17:36. Zach Wawrzyniakowski was another six seconds back in 17:42 (22nd).

Luke Falk finished 34th in 18:09 and Quintin Berndt 35th in 18:10.
