ELMER DAVID FLEMING

Elmer David “Dave” Fleming, 87, of Spring Prairie, died on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.

Dave was born on Sept. 22, 1935, to Elmer and Norma (nee Elfers) Fleming. On Dec. 12, 1959, he married Mary C. Stecker. Together they raised their family in Burlington. Dave was a member of the Army National Guard 32nd Red Arrow Division and served at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1961-1962 during their mobilization in the Berlin Crisis.

Early on in Dave’s career, he worked at Kolm’s Super Valu in Burlington, as a meat cutter. Then he joined the team at Lake Geneva Country Meats, where he honed his craft for over 40 years.

Dave was always a hard worker and would volunteer to help family or acquaintances with whatever was needed. He sold advertising materials and wedding invitations throughout the community for many decades. Beginning in the 1970s, Dave started processing deer and pig roasting as hobbies. More recently, his talents have been passed down to his great grandchildren. He also worked for Stowell’s Catering and bartended for many years at his sister-in-law’s tavern, The Hideaway, in Genoa City. Whether he was family or not, many people just called him “Uncle Dave.”

In the early years, Dave played and coached baseball in town. He also loved a good game of golf and was an avid card player.

Dave is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Dave (Holly) Fleming and Christine (Christopher) Robers; sister, Joanne (Ray) Solofra; grandchildren, Scott (Emily) Fleming, Heidi (Eric) Harrmann, and Amanda Robers; great grandchildren, Owen and Mason Fleming, and Elsa and Hayes Harrmann; and many nieces and nephews. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dean and Roger, and granddaughter, Haley.

Visitation will take place from Noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 198 Westridge Ave. Burlington. The family will hold a private funeral service.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Aurora at Home Hospice, Home Helpers, and the VA Home Based Primary Care program.
