DEBORAH A. STEFFEN

      Deborah A. Steffen, 68, of Burlington, passed away on Feb. 2, 2023, at her home in Burlington after a battle with cancer.

Deborah was born in Bessemer, Michigan, on July 24, 1954, to Russell and June Saari. She spent her earlier years of life in Raddison. She then moved to Elkhorn and graduated from Elkhorn High School. She continued her schooling at Racine Gateway Technical College where she earned her Associates Degree in accounting. On April 30, 1983, she was united in marriage to Craig A. Steffen in Las Vegas. After their marriage she joined Craig in Burlington where they raised their two daughters.

Debbie worked as a banker for over 20 years at State Bank of Elkhorn, 12 years as an accountant at Circle Inc., and four years at Wisconsin Vision & Associates. She retired at age 62 and enjoyed every minute of it.

Debbie was a member of Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington. She loved spending time with her husband, two daughters, two grandchildren, and her two cats. She enjoyed taking her annual trips up to Wisconsin Dells and visiting her hometown. She enjoyed watching black and white movies, sewing, sunbathing, and cooking her family’s recipes. She enjoyed learning about her mother and father’s family history. She was very proud of her Finnish heritage.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Craig Steffen; children, Cassandra (Jared) Owen and Amanda (Thomas Ruge) Steffen; grandchildren, Emsley and Edison Owen; siblings, Russell (Jeannine) Saari, Kurt (Barb) Sarri, Pam Saari and John Saari.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and June Saari.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023 from 10 a.m. until noon at Schuette Daniels Funeral Home. Service will follow at noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Breast Cancer Research Society.

The family would like to thank Dr. Haider and the Oncology Team at Aurora Cancer Center of Burlington for their care and compassion of Deborah.
