LINDA J. SOKUP

It is with deep sadness that the family of Linda J. Sokup announces her passing on June 8, 2022, after sustaining a tragic injury following a fall. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest as she did.

Linda was born in Burlington to Edward and Donna (nee Hegeman) Dorn on July 28, 1963. She was the fourth of six children. Linda attended St. Mary’s Grade and High School in Burlington. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees with a Special Education emphasis at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Linda shared her enthusiasm for learning with over a thousand middle-school students during her thirty-seven years of teaching. She started her career in Ladysmith, spent the majority in the Muskego School District, and most recently was teaching at St. Roman Parish School in Milwaukee. She would have wanted her current third-grade students to know that it was God’s time to call her home, the Holy Spirit was with her in every step of life’s journey, and Jesus was there to welcome her to heaven.

Linda was united in marriage in September 1988 to J. Michael Sokup at St. Mary’s Church in Burlington. They enjoyed many years traveling together and especially enjoyed time with family in Colorado, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; father- and mother-in-law, Archie and Phyllis Sokup; sisters-in-law, Colleen Dorn and Julie Immekus-Dorn; and brother-in-law Daniel Marshall.

Linda is survived by her stepchildren, Jeff (Shannon) Sokup, Jim (Clare) Sokup, and Jodi Sokup; grandchildren, Davin (Krista Burton) Sokup, Aidan Sokup, Rowan Sokup, Isabel Sokup, and George Sokup; brother, Ron Dorn; sisters, Diane (Thomas) Boettcher, Nancy (Daniel) Weinkauf, Karen (Jay) Szatkowski, and Sarah Hayhurst; sister-in-law, Sylvia Marshall; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Even though Linda was taken too soon, she lived a blessed life. The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Linda. Family members will fondly remember her ability to plan details for holiday cooking, summer lake days, backyard campfires and BBQs, and many special occasions with her warm flair and sparkle.

In Linda’s last selfless act on earth, she gave the gift of life through organ donation. The family wants to thank the supportive staff at Froedert Hospital and the caring Versiti Milwaukee organ transplant team.

Please join us on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 as we celebrate Linda’s life at a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. at Brooklife Church, 857 S. Rochester Street, Suite 300, Mukwonago.
