JODIE DEAN PAVELSEK

Jodie (Jody) Dean Pavelsek, 68, passed away suddenly, at his home on Dec. 28, 2021 after a journey with cancer.

Jody was born on Sept. 3, 1953, in Smith Center, Kan., to Theodore and Rita (nee Breuckman) Pavelsek . He attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Burlington Public Schools. He graduated from Burlington High School Class of 1971. He went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he obtained four degrees and continued on to receive his Master’s Degree. He was co-owner of Charlie Browns Lounge, and owner of Sharkey’s in downtown Burlington. He was a teacher at Southern Lakes Consortium Alternative High School, a substitute teacher for area schools and also was a tutor. He enjoyed working with the students and his students fondly referred to him as “Mr. J”.

Jody will be remembered for his quirky, dry sense of humor like his dad’s, which could brighten the room. He had a soft spot in his heart for living creatures, insects included. He especially had a love for dogs and always had a pocket full of treats. With a smirk on his face, he could spin a web of tales, of which no one knew, was it truth or fiction? Throughout his life, he coached and played on several softball teams. He also coached the Brewers, the Bucks and the Packers from his living room, many times scheduling his day around the game times. Outside of those, his favorite hobby was golfing with his sons. He enjoyed movies and music, with a very eclectic taste.

Jody was a devoted dad, and his biggest sense of pride and joy are his two sons, Joe and Chris. When they were growing up, he spent as much time with them as he could. He made Chicken Chip Casserole often because that was their favorite. Jody’s favorite time of year was Christmas and he made sure his kids had plenty of gifts under the tree. They enjoyed playing various pranks on each other, many times Jody was the subject.

Jody is survived by his sons, Joseph (Antoinette West) and Christopher (Emily Mundt); grand-dogs Enzo and Buddy; the mother of his children, Elise (Bill) Corcoran; and stepchildren Lynn Busch, Jeremy Busch and Matthew (Sarah) Busch.

If any of this triggered a fond memory, or made you smile, he would be happy about that and the family would love to hear your stories.

Jody, we will always carry your memory in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to an animal shelter of your choosing, or to the family.

Thank you to the Burlington Police Department, to our family and friends for the endless support shown during this time, and a special thank you to Elise Corcoran for preparing the obituary for the family.

Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home is serving the family. Well-wishers may visit www.danielsfamilyfuneral.com.
