GARY B. KETTERHAGEN

Gary B. Ketterhagen, 66, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, after a valiant fight with covid. He passed in time to be with his son Ben, in Heaven, for opening day of deer season.

Gary was born on Sept. 28, 1955, to Roman and Verena (nee Freund) Ketterhagen in Burlington. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School “Class of 1973”. He was a lifetime resident of Burlington where he worked and raised his family. On Sept. 19, 1981, he was united in marriage to Marlene Daniels at St. Mary Catholic Church. On March 24, 2018, he was united in marriage to Theresa Hewitt at St. Charles Catholic Church.

Gary started his working career at Roesing Furniture, worked for many years for DM Ketterhagen Builders, Wisconsin Southern Gas, started his own business Ketter’s Seamless Gutters and then in 1999 bought and took over Schlitz Flooring Store renaming it to Ketter’s Flooring. Gary was involved in the community in various ways. He was a member and active in both St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Charles Catholic Church. At St. Charles, he was active in the choir. He was a man of many abilities and interests ranging from carpentry, gardening, cooking, hunting, singing, dancing, boating, fishing and many other hidden “old fashion” talents. He always had a busy schedule including his Tuesday Golf League, Wednesday Bowling, or Thursday Men’s Card Club and any other project he committed to that could help someone out. When his children were younger, he was very active in their sports, volunteering as a coach for various baseball and basketball teams.

But more than anything, faith and family meant the world to Gary. He treasured the time he spent with his family, especially the grandchildren.

Gary will truly be missed by his wife Theresa; children, Chantry (Doug) Kerkman, Valerie (Paul) Eicher, Kendra (Peter) Gabriel, and Caleb (Mackenzie) Hewitt; grandchildren, Augie, Greta, Joshua, Isaac, and Aiden; siblings, Dale (Nancy) Ketterhagen, Elaine Bennett and Sue (John) Dewey; mother of his children Marlene Daniels; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Benjamin, and his brother-in-law Henry Bennett.

The family has suggested, in honor of Gary, that memorials be made to Burlington Catholic School or Catholic Central.

Gary’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Burlington ICU nurses, respiratory specialists, Dr. Paul Webber, Dr. Kmecak, Dr. Haider, Dr. Welka, and Dr. Husnain for all their care and compassion at this difficult and trying time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Very Rev. James Volkert officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, from 1 until 5 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Burial will follow service at St. Mary Cemetery.
