The expansion of Waterford Fire Department’s solo station is nearly complete, according to a brief update on the extensive project.

At a Village Board meeting April 11, WFD Fire Chief Rick Mueller gave a report on the facility, 819 Mohr Ave., which more commonly is referred to as Fire Station No. 2.

“Our target date should be later this month, if everything goes well,” Mueller said of the project’s progress.

WFD has been in the process the past several years of consolidating operations and, in turn, vacating Fire Station No. 1, 122 N. 2nd St. The overhaul of WFD’s physical footprint has been a talking point for at least a decade.

The change-up, which was finalized in 2020, included expanding the physical size of Fire Station No. 2 by offering up a number of new amenities within the facility, such as sleeping quarters for fire and EMS personnel, and adding garage bays.

The expansion of Fire Station No. 2 dovetails into the planned conversion of the 2nd Street station into a commercial business.

The Village Board in February signed off on a developer’s agreement with Milwaukee-based Mobcraft Brewing LLC. The operator plans to operated a brewpub out of the renovated facility.
