Map update accommodates Waterford Lofts project

In a signal of forthcoming development, Waterford officials have voted in favor of a new certified survey map on the future home of the mixed-use Waterford Lofts development.

The Village Board on July 12 approved the CSM, which combines two lots at the northeast corner of the intersection of Milwaukee and Main streets.

Village Administrator Zeke Jackson said the revised CSM is the outgrowth of municipal-level conversations with two contracted firms — Pure Architecture and Trio Engineering — and the drawing up of construction documents.

The goal, Jackson said, is to have all of the behind-the-scenes planning wrapped before 2021 gives way to 2022.

“We sure hope to have that finished by the end of the year, if not sooner,” Jackson said.

Early this year, village officials touted Waterford Lofts as a project that could bring upward of $2.5 million in new increment to the village.

The residential-heavy condo project is planned to sprout up in place of the former River City Lanes site at 410 E. Main St.

Other business

In other recent business, the Village Board:

  • Reviewed a written report from Mike Sponholtz, facilities and parks supervisor. He commented on his department’s efforts to keep Whitford Park, 625 S. 1st St., in good condition.

“The age of this park is showing badly,” Sponholtz wrote. “(We’re) trying to gather support from various organizations to help form a plan. Lots of money needed here.”

  • Reviewed a written report from Library Director Heather Kinkade. She provided a series of statistics concerning the first six months of this year within the Waterford Public Library.

In terms of circulation figures, Kinkade said a total of 14,783 items moved through the local library in June. From Jan. 1 to June 30, Kinkade said the library circulated a total of 72,263 items.
