City of Burlington voters on Tuesday supported an advisory referendum that recommends keeping the White River Dam and Echo Lake.

Voters were able to choose from two options – No. 1: Remove the dam and restore the natural river stream; or No. 2: Replace the dam and dredge the lake.

Voters supported keeping the dam by a large margin with the final vote 2,664 for option 2 and 1,805 for option 1.

Because the vote is advisory it will now be the task of the city’s Common Council to make the final decision.
